id al-Adha (The Feast of the Sacrifice) is the most important holiday in Morocco. It is on this day that over 6 million lambs are sacrificed in celebration of Abraham's faithfulness to God in almost sacrificing his son Ishmal (according to Islam). I wandered an impoverished area of town and found a man hard at work sawing horns off many heads, donkey carts carrying lamb skins, children playing, and skins drying along ropes. I was invited by a stranger to meet his mother and took the chance that he was not lying. Behold, he did have a mother and she promptly ushered me to sit and made me kabobs with the fresh lamb meat.
